September is a busy month and we are gearing up with a number of great opportunities to engage and partner with our community in this important work of educating and nurturing our students. First, we have our first Parent Partnership Meeting of the year on Thursday, September 26 beginning at 5pm. Parent Partnership is Manning’s version of our school accountability committee. At this meeting, we’ll be discussing our student achievement data, our unified improvement plan, as well as setting the stage for our work ahead. Look for an agenda coming soon. Everyone is welcome and I hope that you can join us!

Next, coming up on Friday, September 27, is our first Coffee with the Principal Event beginning at 8:30 in the library. Coffee with the Principal is an informal opportunity to hear about the work happening at Manning as well as to learn from others. At our September Coffee, you’ll hear about our start to the year as well as learn about Signs of Suicide from our SELS, Kari Simmons.

While we know that regular attendance at school is important, September is School Attendance Awareness Month! Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10 percent or greater of the total number of days enrolled during the school year for any reason. This means a student misses about 18 days during a school year. It includes excused and unexcused absences, out-of-school suspensions and in-school suspensions that last more than half of the school day. We know that even missing a few minutes of a class period is challenging in terms of instruction missed, let alone days at a time. Thank you for your support in ensuring your student is regularly attending school!

As we continue to adjust to our parking lot flow (or sometimes lack thereof), I wanted to remind everyone to please be sure to keep the hug and go zones moving, including pulling forward as space permits. This is especially tricky in the afternoon when traffic in our north lane backs up onto 32nd Avenue. By pulling forward, we’re able to support the flow of traffic within our parking lot and on 32nd. Lastly, please avoid making left-hand turns out of our parking lot during high-traffic times. This also slows down the flow of traffic and causes safety concerns.

As your principal, I am here to serve our community. My door is always open, and I welcome your partnership in this important work!

In Partnership,

Matt
